The former Golden Mile Complex, a prominent feature at The Golden Mile location, was built in the early 1970s. Designed by the Singaporean architectural firm Design Partnership, it was one of the pioneering mixed-use developments in the city. The complex became known for its distinctive stepped terrace design, which provided residents with ample outdoor space and natural ventilation.
Over the decades, the Golden Mile Complex gained a reputation as a vibrant cultural hub, particularly for the Thai community in Singapore. It housed numerous Thai restaurants, shops, and businesses, earning it the nickname “Little Thailand.”
The complex was also home to various entertainment venues, contributing to its status as a lively and dynamic destination. However, despite its cultural significance, the Golden Mile Complex faced numerous challenges, including maintenance issues and declining occupancy rates. This led to calls for redevelopment, culminating in its acquisition by a consortium comprising Far East Organization, Sino Land, and Perennial Holdings.
